Internet / Workstations

The University and City Library of Cologne provides access to the Internet on the first floor and workstations with access to a variety of desktop publishing programs and other software applications as well as the Internet on the second floor.

Opening hours:

Mon - Fri 9.00 a.m. - midnight
Sat - Sun 9.00 a.m. - 9.00 p.m.

Regulations of Usage

A valid library card, an S-Mail-Account or a Uni-Account is required to use the Internet or the workstations. Legal persons are excepted.

Login

to the Internet on the first floor:

The computers on the first floor provide access to the Internet only. Desktop publishing programs and other software applications are not available. Login: Fill in your library card number into the input field "Benutzername" and your password into the next input field. Your password is your date of birth, 6-digit (DDMMYY - example: 050385). To change your password click on the "Mein Konto" (my account) link (in German), which provides a "Passwort ändern" (change password) link .
Members of the University of Cologne may use their S-Mail-Account or Uni-Account and password to login.

at the Internet / workstations on the second floor:

Internet- / Multimedia-Workstations

For these workstations an S-Mail-Account or a Uni-Account is required.
If the person before you logged out correctly, you should be able to see the login dialog box after pressing the key combination Ctrl+Alt+Del (or Strg+Alt+Entf on a German keyboard).
The AD domain has to be selected. A list of domains will open by clicking on the pull-down menu. Then enter user name and password of your account into the proper input fields, mind the correct use of small and capital letters.
After a moment the Windows user interface will appear.

Internet / Workstation Using Time

There is no time limit for working at our PCs until further notice.

E-mail

You have unlimited access to e-mails at our workstations on the first and second floor.

Printing

2 printers are located in our reading room on the second floor. Print jobs can be ordered from the PCs on the second floor or directly from a USB flash drive at the printer. Colored and black-and-white prints are possible.
How to proceed:
- select the printer name *USB-digitexx1 or 2* before starting your print job
- the print job starts automatically
- payment is possible via DiGiTEXX-Printcard which you can purchase from a machine in the copy room on the first floor (price list - information in German).

It is not possible to print at our Internet PCs on the first floor. After using the print command in an application a PDF file will be created which you can save on your USB stick.

Printing via laptop

You can print documents via your laptop. You have only to add the appropriate printer in the system settings. Follow the instructions:

You will need to use your DiGiTEXX printcard to pay for printing services which you can purchase from a machine in the copy room on the first floor (price list - information in German).

Downloads

At our Internet PCs on the first floor you can save your documents to a USB stick (drive E: ).
All USB storage devices, which require separate drivers, such as USB hard drives, mobile phones, USB flash drives with U3 software does not work on these units.

Logoff

For your own protection you must close any session to the Internet before leaving the PCs, otherweise the next user may work with your personal identifying information.

How to log off:
At the Internet PCs on the first floor you just have to close the browser to log off.
At the workstations on the second floor press [Start] + ["Benutzername" abmelden] (user name log off). (Please do not shut down the workstation!)
